What is the prevalence of depression?

Depression is one of the most common mental disorders. The risk of developing a depressive disorder in the course of ones life is about 10-20%.

About half of all people with depressive disorders additionally suffer from anxiety disorders, e.g. panic disorder.

Many patients develop first symptoms before their 40th year of age. Women are affected about twice as likely as men, the cause for this is still unknown.
